How do I know if I have email?

Blackboard Learn keeps no record of received emails. When you receive an email sent from within Blackboard, it will appear in the Inbox of your external email account. Keep a copy of important messages in case you need them at a later date.

How can I be notified about new items?

Blackboard Learn has a few different options to notify you when there is new content.

  • The first is Notifications. This depends on how your school has set up Blackboard, but if it is available to you. You manage notifications by clicking My Places in the page header and then selecting Edit Notification Settings. You can receive notifications in the What’s New and To Do modules in Blackboard Learn, by email, and in Blackboard Mobile (if available). For more information, see Notifications.
  • The second is through the modules, specifically the What’s New module. This module can appear either on the My Institution tab (the main Blackboard page) or in an individual course. You can also customize that module. For more information, see What's New Module.

These things depend on how your instructor customizes his or her course and how your school has chosen to personalize Blackboard. If you do not see these options, contact the computing help desk at your school as they will be familiar with how things are customized there. If you’re not sure how to contact them, look for the technology office on your school’s website or search the web for your school’s name + Blackboard + help or support.
